  3. What's the FAR? Where can I view it?

    The FAR is the Federal Acquisition Regulation, a publication that provides acquisition regulations for Federal agencies. You may view the FAR at Hill AFB or GSA.

  4. What's the DFARS? Where can I view it?

    The DFARS is the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, a supplement to the FAR that provides DoD specific acquisition regulations. You can view the DFARS by selecting DFARS/PGI from the navigational menu on the left side of the DARS Website.

  5. What's a DFARS rule? Are there different kinds?

    A DFARS rule is a change to the DFARS issued by the Director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy. There are three kinds of DFARS Rules:

    • Proposed - A proposed change to the DFARS for the purpose of soliciting public comments
    • Interim - A temporary change made to the DFARS that includes a request for public comments
    • Final - A final change to the DFARS

  6. Can I submit comments for DFARS rules? How?

    Yes, anyone can submit comments on DFARS proposed and interim rules. Select Out for Public Comments on the left side of the DARS Website.

  7. Can I view my public comments online? Can I view other public comments?

    You can view public comments for DFARS cases published before January 1, 2006 at http://ebiz.acq.osd.mil/dar/dfars.nsf.

    You can view public comments for FAR and DFARS cases published after January 1, 2006 at http://www.regulations.gov. Please see the instructions below.

    DFARS Case Instructions:

    • Select the radio button for " All Documents (Open and Closed for Comment)"
    • For Agency drop down the list and Select "Defense Acquisition Regulations Systems"
    • Document Type should read "All Document Types"
    • For category, select "Document Title"
    • In Keyword field type the case number you would like to view (i.e. 2005-D013) or the case title(i.e. complete/partial)
    • Select the radio button for "Any Word"
    • Click on the Submit button
    • From Search Results
      • Click on the first Docket ID associated with your case, scroll to bottom of page to view all
      • Now you will be able to see any posted comments and also be able to post any comments yourself.
    • FAR Cases Instructions:

  8. Who is authorized to submit a suggested revision to the FAR or DFARS, and what procedures do they follow?

    Any person or organization may request a revision to the FAR or DFARS by submitting a memorandum, in the format outlined in DFARS 201.201-1, to the DARS Director. Requests within the Federal Government should flow through respective command lines. Requests from industry or other non-government persons should be submitted directly to the DARS Director. Responsibility is placed on the requestor to clearly set out how the current regulations are perceived to be inadequate and the specific revisions to remedy the described situation.

  10. What's PGI?

    PGI (Procedures, Guidance, and Information) is a companion resource to the DFARS. PGI contains internal DoD procedures and guidance for contracting personnel. To find more information about PGI, visit the DFARS/PGI homepage.

  11. Is PGI published in the Federal Register or Code of Federal Regulations?

    Since PGI does not contain policies or procedures that significantly affect the public, it is not published in the Federal Register or the Code of Federal Regulations and is not subject to public rulemaking requirements. PGI is openly available on the World Wide Web and links electronically to the DFARS. The DAR Directorate updates PGI in a manner similar to that used for updating the on-line DFARS (i.e., posting of Change to Publication Notices and Subscribe to DFARS News Feed). Members of the public who wish to comment on PGI may submit their comments to DARS.

  12. What's the DFARS news? Can I subscribe?

    DFARS News is an email newsletter sent out every time change notices are posted to the Web. To subscribe to DFARS News, select "DFARS/PGI" in the left side navigation menu of the DARS website.

  13. What are Class Deviations?

    Class Deviations provide departments/agencies permission to take an action not authorized by the FAR or DFARS. The authority to approve class deviations for DoD is contained in DFARS 201.404. You can view DoD-wide Class Deviations issued by the Director, Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy, on the DARS Website.

    The DARS office no longer produces paper copies of the DFARS. We provide the DFARS in electronic form only. This includes an HTML version, the entire DFARS in Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF formats. The following sources may sell paper copies of the DFARS:
