The information below focuses on determining the specific material impacted by the class/commodities phased approach for DoD’s implementation of RFID. The type of commodities affected by the DoD RFID initiative is based on the Classes of Supply, which have been further categorized by Federal Supply Classification (FSC).
The process of approximating when a commodity is affected by the DoD RFID policy is explained below. The final determination of when a commodity is affected is made by the Contracting Officer.
• The first step is to determine the Federal Supply Class (FSC) of the item in question.
- Go to http://www.dlis.dla.mil/WEBFLIS
- Click on “Public Query”
- Search by the item’s Manufacturer Part Number and CAGE Code
- Locate the first 4 digits of the National Stock Number (NSN); these 4 digits are the FSC
Example — Breakdown of National Stock Number:
| National Stock Number (NSN): 1385459030345 |
| Group: |
13 (first 2 digits) |
| FSC: |
1385 (first 4 digits) |
| NIIN: |
459030345 (last 9 digits) |
• The second step is to determine which Class of Supply the item belongs to.
