Eligibility

Explains the requirements that each company must meet in order to be eligible to participate in the programs. Requirements are different for SBIR and STTR, so make sure you understand the restrictions before proceeding.

Schedule

The SBIR and STTR programs have different BAA schedules and deadlines that change on an annual basis.

Current Announcements

This is your gateway to all topics for which the Department of Defense is currently soliciting responses. It also includes a link to the DoD's SBIR/STTR announcement Listserv.

Topic SearchExternal Link

This link takes you directly to the DoD Topic Search tool to quickly and easily search topics by keyword across all DoD components participating in the current BAA. Once you find a topic of interest, be sure to read the Component-specific instructions for that topic.

Topic Q&A (SITIS)External Link

During the BAA period, communication between small businesses and topic authors is highly encouraged. During the Pre-Release period, you may talk directly with topic authors to ask technical questions about the topics. Their names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses are listed within each BAA topic. For reasons of competitive fairness, direct communication between proposers and topic authors is not allowed during the Open period when DoD is accepting proposals for each BAA. However, proposers may still submit written questions about BAA topics through the SBIR/STTR Interactive Topic Information System (SITIS). In SITIS the questioner and respondent are anonymous and all questions and answers are posted electronically for general viewing until the BAA closes. All proposers are advised to monitor SITIS during the Open BAA period for questions and answers and other significant information relevant to their SBIR/STTR topics of interest.

Proposal SubmissionExternal Link

All SBIR Proposals must be submitted electronically through the DoD SBIR/STTR Electronic Submission Web Site, as described in the Proposal Preparation and Submission of Proposal sections of the program Announcement.

Process Acceleration

There are several DoD programs and initiatives designed to accelerate the commercialization of SBIR- and STTR-developed technologies into DoD acquisition programs or commercial-sector products or services. Review this section to understand the requirements and benefits of each.
