In a December 2000 memorandum, the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) and the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) jointly established the Property and Equipment (P&E) Policy Office. The office is located in OUSD (AT&L) and is led by Mr. Steve Tkac, Acting Deputy Director, Acquisition Resources & Analysis (ARA) for Property & Equipment Policy.

In addition, we are revising and expanding the relevant DoD Instruction (DoDI) 5000.64, “Accountability and Management of DoD Equipment and Other Accountable Property,” to assist the Department’s efforts to demonstrate the existence of the property and equipment being reported.
