Acting Director, Space & National Intelligence Strategic, Space and Intelligence Portfolio Management
Mr. Kevin B. Peterson currently serves as the Acting Director for Space & National Intelligence (SNI) in the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Acquisition & Sustainment. In this position, he oversees Space Portfolio Management and Acquisition oversight of the Intelligence Community (IC) Major Systems Acquisition (MSAs). His responsibilities encompass Space Control, Space Command and Control, Remote Sensing, Space Launch, and MSAs of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and other activities.
Most recently, Mr. Peterson served as the Deputy Director Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR). His previous positions include serving as a Program Analyst in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space, Strategic, and Intelligence Portfolio Management supporting Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC)/Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) coordination activities; Program Manager (Acting) Conventional Prompt Strike; and Program Analyst with the Strategic Deterrence and Capabilities Directorate executing Nuclear Posture Review Implementation tasks.
Prior to becoming a government civilian, he served 30 years in the United States Army as both a Field Artillery and Acquisition Officer.
Since becoming a member of the Defense Acquisition Workforce in 1994, Mr. Peterson has served as an Assistant Program Manager Warfighters Simulation System; Special Assistant to the Commanding General, Army Materiel Command; Assistant Program Manager STINGER Missiles and Platforms; Product Manager Light Tactical Vehicles; Military Deputy & Army Project Manager Joint Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP) Program; Chief, Capabilities and Acquisition Division, Joint Staff J8.
Mr. Peterson is a graduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and received his commission through ROTC in 1985. He also holds a Master of Science in Materiel Acquisition Management from the Florida Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
