The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics, under the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment, is responsible for the department's logistics strategy and policy, supply, storage and distribution, property and equipment, transportation, and program support.
The principal missions of the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Materiel Readiness (DASD(MR)) are to:
- Serve as the principal advisor for policies and procedures for maintenance support of major weapon systems and military equipment.
- Provide the functional expertise for centralized maintenance policy and management oversight for all weapon systems and military equipment maintenance programs and related resources within the Department of Defense.
- Establish and maintain maintenance policies and programs that are managerially and technologically sound and adequately resourced to maintain the desired levels of weapon systems and military equipment readiness to accomplish the Department's missions.
The DASD(PS) is responsible to the Assistant Secretary of Defense(Sustainment) for all product support policy matters.
- Provides oversight of program sustainment, affordability, and life cycle logistics for major weapon systems acquisition in order to ensure sustainability and supportability integration early in the acquisition process.
- Oversees the Product Support Managers and Performance Base Logistics programs.
- Coordinates and synchronizes international and partner engagement for the ASD(S).
- Provides functional management of acquisition and logistics career fields.
The Defense Logistics Agency manages the end-to-end global defense supply chain – from raw materials to end user disposition – for the five military services, 11 combatant commands, other federal, state and local agencies partner and allied nations.
