PFAS Testing Results for On-Base DoD-Owned and Operated Drinking Water Systems

The DoD Components have tested all DoD-owned and operated drinking water systems to identify drinking water that exceeded 70 parts per trillion (ppt) for PFOS and PFOA. Where DoD drinking water systems tested above 70 ppt, the Department took immediate, short-term action to address the issue. After stopping drinking water exposure to PFOS and PFOA, DoD has examined options and implemented longer-term drinking water solutions, such as closing wells, installing new wells, and adding permanent PFAS-specific treatment equipment to drinking water systems. No one on base is drinking water above 70ppt for PFOS and PFOA where DoD is the known source of release. DoD is continuing to test DoD-owned and operated drinking water systems to ensure PFOS and PFOA levels remain below 70ppt.

DoD Cleanup Actions to Address Off-Base Drinking Water

DoD conducts sampling of drinking water off-base to ensure it identifies potential impacts of PFAS resulting from previous DoD activities. When PFOS and PFOA are found above 70 parts per trillion (ppt) in drinking water resulting from DoD activities, the Department takes immediate action to address the drinking water exposure. DoD’s actions are consistent with the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommendations and include initiating short-term remedies (e.g., providing bottled water, point-of-use water filters) and long-term solutions (e.g., municipal connections, filtration systems). The Department's priority is to quickly reduce significantly elevated levels of PFOS and PFOA in drinking water so that no one – on or off base – is drinking water that is above 70ppt for PFOS and PFOA where DoD is the known source. View final testing results for PFAS in off-base drinking water in areas in the United States located adjacent to and down gradient from a DoD military installation, FUDS, or National Guard facility.

PFAS Fact Sheet Search

PFAS SNAPSHOTS (i.e. fact sheets) provide testing results for and the status of actions to address PFOS and PFOA in on-base DoD-owned and operated drinking water systems where applicable (see Table 1). PFAS SNAPSHOTS for the installations are searchable by state and illustrate where PFOS and/or PFOA sampling results exceeded 70ppt in DoD-owned and operated on-base drinking water, off-base drinking water, and/or groundwater that is not consumed as drinking water.
