Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Housing
On October 6, 2025, Mr. Adam Dontz was sworn in to serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War (DASW) for Housing within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Energy, Installations, and Environment. In this role, Mr. Dontz is the chief advisor to the Assistant Secretary of War for Energy, Installations and Environment for all matters pertaining to housing policy and related oversight. The portfolio spans 750 military installations world-wide and comprises housing for over 2,000,000 of America’s Warriors living in: unaccompanied housing, government-owned family housing, general officer quarters, and privatized housing.
Prior to serving as DASW for Housing, Mr. Dontz’s career was at the nexus of the private and public sector negotiating real estate and economic development agreements. In real estate, Mr. Dontz managed a portfolio of residential building sites which exceed $1,000,000,000 of improved value. Additionally, Mr. Dontz led employment creation and real estate development efforts by negotiating incentives and development agreements with companies including: Caterpillar, Norfolk Southern, Selig, Union Pacific Railroad, Vactor (a company of the Federal Signal Corporation), and others. Mr. Dontz also developed Michigan’s largest barn venue to hold the “Centennial Farm” designation by the Michigan Historical Society.
Mr. Dontz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Albion College where he was also a member of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Public Service.
