DoD PACKAGING AWARDS

The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment (OASD(S)) partners with the National Institute of Packaging, Handling, and Logistics Engineers (NIPHLE) to sponsor the Department of Defense (DoD) Packaging Innovation Excellence Award and Packaging Production Achievement Award. The purpose of these awards is to honor outstanding teams and/or individuals in the DoD packaging community who contribute significantly to the packaging effort by developing new packaging processes, and improving productivity and efficiency throughout the DoD. These awards highlight the DoD's packaging accomplishments and recognize outstanding contributions to packaging innovation, productivity, and performance. These awards serve to increase the overall visibility of DoD packaging functions and accomplishments. The awards are open to DoD military and civilian personnel who contribute significantly to the DoD packaging program.

2021 DoD Packaging Awards Winners

2021 Department of Defense Packaging Innovation Excellence Award presented to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Vaccine Operations Team

The team rapidly established a global pipeline for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, and delivered more than 1 million doses to forward-deployed military personnel, their families, and Department of Defense contractors in 35 countries. This is an outstanding achievement given the requirements for scheduling, inspection, cold chain management, and recipient verification for each shipment. Additionally, the team supported the delivery of more than 36 million items of critical medical supply items and equipment to frontline healthcare workers in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

2021 Department of Defense Packaging Production Achievement Award presented to the DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, TX, Preservation, Packaging, Packing, and Marking (PPP&M) Team

The team preserved and packaged 57,213 assets valued at more than $3.2 billion and de-packaged 9,535 assets in support of Material Release Orders with a value of more than $966 million to provision industrial operations at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. The team packaged 930 aviation engines, transmissions, and components in the Preservation Shop, and de-packed 829 aviation engines and transmissions, to include draining of all fluids, in the de-Preservation Shop. DLA Distribution Corpus Christi initiated a packaging remediation and compliance program that resulted in significantly exceeding enterprise goals for Incoming Supply Discrepancy Reports and Denial Rates as a direct result of the team’s efforts.
