OSD FELLOWS PROGRAM SELECTION PROCESS
Who can participate:
  • The OSD Fellows Program is available to highly motivated DoD civilians (GS-13 to GS-14 or YA-02/03) and military officers (grades 04 or 05)
  • Participants should have experience in DoD maintenance, life cycle logistics, supply, or transportation and have demonstrated strong potential for promotion to senior-level management
  • A Secret clearance is required
  • Participants must be self-starters, willing to learn and experience other aspects of DoD logistics, and be dedicated to immersing themselves into each assignment
How to apply:
Prepare a packet for submission through your sponsoring organization that includes:
  • Résumé (5 pages maximum, including references)
  • Three most recent performance appraisals or military performance reports
  • Signed copy of the training agreement (template attached)
  • Letter of endorsement by the nominating Service 4 at the GO/FO/SES level
  • One page personal statement justifying favorable consideration for the program
  • Nominating agency/service may have additional unique nomination requirements (Please check with your Service 4 or Human Resources department for any additional requirements)
Selection timeline:
  • Solicitation of nominations — December
  • Nominations due — January
  • Selections made  — March
  • Program begins —  July
  • Each participant spends the year as a member of the OSD Maintenance Policy and Programs, Material Readiness, Supply Chain Integration or Transportation Policy offices, formulating, evaluating, and coordinating policy and resolving defense-wide logistics issues
  • Final determination of assignment is based on the participant's experience and slot availability
  • OSD Fellows Program participants have opportunities to attend formal logistics courses and visit public and private logistics operations while interacting with logistics professionals to gain an understanding of cutting edge logistics systems
How participants are selected:
Nominations should be forwarded through the Service or Agency to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readines (ASD(L&MR)) by the end of January.

Duty Location:
All duty locations are in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Salaries, official travel, and per diem expenses for participants in the program will be paid by their sponsoring Service or Agency, and if applicable will receive long-term TDY/TAD benefits in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
