Readout of Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen H. Hicks' Meeting With the Defense Business Board

Pentagon Spokesman Eric Pahon provided the following readout:

Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks hosted the Defense Business Board's first quarterly meeting for fiscal year 2023 at the Pentagon yesterday in a closed, classified session.

During the session, she briefed board members on the department's key efforts related to the resilience of the defense industrial base.

The Deputy Secretary noted she is focused on how the DoD can embed resilience and reduce risk in the Department's critical supply chains- to include ensuring a diverse and competitive industrial base, efficient acquisitions, on-shoring /friend-shoring, and addressing workforce challenges.

Board members asked questions and provided recommendations on best business practices and management within industry and the private sector which could be helpful in addressing the department's resiliency concerns.

Deputy Secretary Hicks thanked the board members for dedicating their time and expertise toward improving Department of Defense business practices, governance, and culture.

Later in an open public session of the meeting, the Business Transformation Advisory Subcommittee presented their latest study on DoD's Business Health Metrics to the full Board for deliberation and approval. The study was approved.
