The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment (ASD(Sustainment)) serves as the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment (USD(A&S)), Deputy Secretary of Defense (DEPSECDEF), and Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) on logistics and materiel readiness in the Department of Defense (DoD) and is the principal logistics official within the senior management of the DoD.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Programs (NCB) develops policies, provides advice, and makes recommendations on nuclear weapons; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) medical and non-medical defense; safety, surety, security, and safe destruction of the current chemical weapons stockpile; nuclear, chemical, and biological arms control activities; and related plans and programs.

The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy office supports the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment by providing detailed analyses and in-depth understanding of the increasingly global, commercial, and financially complex industrial supply chain essential to our national defense.

The Office of the Executive Director for Special Programs serves under the authority and direction of both the Deputy Secretary of Defense (DepSecDef) and the USD(A&S), directly reporting to the DepSecDef as the Director of the DoD Special Access Program (SAP) Central Office (SAPCO) and functionally reporting to USD(A&S) as the Director for Special Programs.

The International Cooperation (IC) Directorate in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment supports the Under Secretary in carrying out their responsibilities and exercising their authorities on all international matters.

The Office of Human Capital Initiatives is responsible for assisting the USD(A&S) in carrying out statutory powers, functions, and duties of the Secretary of Defense with respect to the Defense Acquisition Workforce (AWF), and as it relates to the Defense Acquisition Improvement Act (DAWIA). In the increasingly fast-paced world of changing threats and evolving technologies, the DoD AWF must not only meet current needs, but anticipate future requirements and warfighting capabilities. The Office of Human Capital Initiatives will implement workforce strategies, policies and procedures that position the DoD to attract and retain the most competent professionals, to guarantee that the AWF is highly skilled and trained to meet current and future needs, and that DoD acquisition professionals share a culture that is dedicated to excellence and to serving the needs of the Warfighter.
